The Taira Baughman Benefit Concert raised over $10,000! Thank you to everyone who attended and to all our volunteers and sponsors!
Team Martina is made up of friends and fans of country artist Martina McBride that want to participate in the fight against cancer and perform community service. The all volunteer group was inspired by McBride's single "I'm Gonna Love You Through It", off her 2011 album, "Eleven". The song is about a young mother's experience with breast cancer and the support of those who loved her through it.
Since 2011, the team has raised over $40,000 to fight cancer.
The team is joined by cancer survivors as seen in the music video for "I'm Gonna Love You Through It".
Team Martina members from around the United States met on Oct 15, 2011, to participate in The American Cancer Society's Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk at L.P. Field in Nashville. Team members came from 9 states and 16 different cities to walk 5 miles to help fight breast cancer in honor of Martina's song and those battling cancer everywhere. Their effort has inspired additional chapters of Team Martina to form in other states to raise money for cancer initiatives.
The team trained for 2 months prior to the event and walked a cumulative 1000 miles leading up to the event, while seeking donations from fans, friends, and family. They surpassed their $11, 111.11 fundraising goal to fight breast cancer in honor of Martina's album "Eleven". John and Martina McBride matched that amount with another $11, 111.11 donation. As of this date, the team has raised in excess of $22, 300.00 to help The American Cancer Society's breast cancer research programs and services.
In December of 2011, the team was honored to assist with OperationLove.net, accompanied by Martina McBride, as a nationwide effort delivered Christmas stockings to over 1200 chemotherapy patients around the U.S.
In May of 2012 the team will participate in The American Cancer Society's Relay For Life in Nashville, TN, in honor of Taira Baughman.
The team is led by volunteer captains Sheila Jones of Alabama, Amy Schmidlein of Georgia and by Tracy Weaver of Tennessee, Director of Fan Relations for Martina McBride
